Ali Larter’s Husband Hayes MacArthur: How They Met, Their Marriage and Life in Idaho
The 'Landman' star found her forever love on a movie set—and they're still going strong
On Landman, Ali Larter’s fiery Angela is a fan-favorite, whose brazen attitude and expensive taste serve as the perfect foil to her on-screen husband Tommy, played by Billy Bob Thornton. While her charm and stunning looks have stolen hearts on the Taylor Sheridan oil drama, in real life, she’s captured the affections of one special someone—her husband, Hayes MacArthur. If Hayes looks familiar, that’s because he, too, is in showbiz, and the funny man has shined in a handful of familiar favorites over the years. As a matter of fact, the duo actually met on a movie they worked on together! Here, read all about Ali Larter’s husband, her marriage and how they make it work.
Ali Larter and husband Hayes MacArthur met on a movie set
In 2005, Ali and Hayes met while working on the film Homo Erectus, and she quickly fell for his charm. In 2007, Hayes got down on one knee, and by 2009, they had tied the knot in a Maine ceremony. Prior to the duo saying “I do,” Larter opened up to Cosmopolitan about what set her love story with Hayes apart from her previous romances. “Since I was 15 years old, all I wanted was to find the guy I was going to marry,” she told the outlet. “My heart got broken so many times because I put so much pressure on it. And then…I got blindsided. [Hayes] showed me the way, and all was right. This is how it’s supposed to be.” She continued, “You know it’s right when you feel this undeniable connection and chemistry, but to sustain a marriage for 50 years, you have to get real a little bit and find someone who is understanding and who you can grow with. My mom always says, ‘Marry the man who loves you a millimeter more.’”

Ali Larter and her husband said goodbye to Hollywood
When the pandemic put the film and television industry on hold and their two children, Theodore and Vivienne, were stuck at home doing remote school, Ali and Hayes thought it best to get away for a bit. Embarking on something of a road trip, they landed upon Sun Valley, Idaho and put down some roots. “We figured it was an opportunity to go on an adventure as a family. And we just started driving north,” revealed Ali in conversation with Rue. “We fell in love with the beauty of the mountains and their quiet grandness,” she continued. “Neither of us had ever lived in a small town before. People look out for each other. There’s a real sense of community here and we’re so happy to be a part of it.”

Ali Larter and her husband put in the work for a healthy marriage
Anyone in a long-term relationship knows that not every day is rainbows and sunshine, but Ali Larter and Hayes MacArthur know that even the healthiest of relationships require a little bit of hard work every now and then. “I met him and he was just light,” she shared on The Drew Barrymore Show. “He’s so funny, and he’s an amazing father, and we keep doing it. We keep growing together. And I never sit here and say that it’s easy, because I think any long-term relationship is so hard at times. But we love our family and we learn from each other every day. And I’m grateful for that.”
