Lioness: Special Ops actress Elizaveta Neretin is opening up about her time on set. In a recent conversation with Woman’s World, the Season 3 star opened up about what it was like working on the Taylor Sheridan show with Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman and even revealed why this season’s storyline was so personal for her. Elizaveta Neretin talks ‘Lioness’ Season 3
In Lioness, Neretin plays Oleksandra Balakin, a Ukrainian double agent who frequently clashes with Saldaña’s character, Joe McNamara. So far this season, Neretin has appeared in all three episodes. This is her first season with the show.
“Oleksandra definitely fights for what she believes in,” Neretin tells Woman’s World. “But, that’s true for all the characters in this series. She’s no exception. I mean, Joe fights for what she believes, and so does my character.”
“It’s also pretty cool that two seasons were out, so I was able to learn as much as I could about the show and figure out the tone,” she adds.
One thing she didn’t have to learn a lot about was the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, which is a big part of Season 3 and something the actress is pretty familiar with.
“My family is still both in Russia and Ukraine, so there was a lot of stuff that didn’t really need any prep,” Neretin says. “I’m a Canadian and I’ve lived in the United States, and so I am removed from the danger that that conflict poses. However, the stories and the constant news from my family never stopped, and it’s been 12 years, so that part didn’t need much preparation in terms of research, but preparing myself and my spirit and my mind to do that definitely took time.”
As for what fans can expect from the rest of Season 3, the actress said that it’s sort of a mystery.
“I don’t want to reveal too much, but we’re going to find out Oleksandra’s true motivations at the end,” she teases.
Elizaveta Neretin opens up about working with Taylor Sheridan
Prior to joining Lioness, Neretin did appear in one episode of Sheridan’s other show, Mayor of Kingstown, in 2021. According to her, though, she was a fan of his work way before that.
“I really loved Sicario, so I knew about him because of that film, and I thought it was excellent. And when I found out that I booked Mayor of Kingstown, I started watching more of his stuff. I watched Hell or High Water—another great movie,” she says. “I think Yellowstone is pretty great, especially the spin-offs. I really like the period pieces. I think they’re really fun.”

“It’s really cool to work with iconic actors that I watched while I was growing up,” she says. “Also, I have a lot more respect for stunt actors now. I didn’t realize how just incredible it is and it’s a lot of work. I have a lot of respect for all of the cast.”
