There’s something wonderfully comforting about being invited into another person’s kitchen—especially when that person is Prue Leith. The beloved Great British Bake Off judge recently opened the doors to her Cotswold kitchen, giving What Matters With Liz viewers a spontaneous, unscripted tour of the warm, colorful space where she films her show Prue Leith’s Cotswold Kitchen. And just like Prue herself, the room is bright, cheerful and absolutely brimming with personality.

A kitchen big enough for a whole film crew

What sets Leith’s kitchen apart isn’t just its charm—it’s its size. The room is large enough to accommodate an entire television production, which is no small feat when you’re filming a cooking series right at home.

“It’s a lovely kitchen, and it’s big enough to have the whole film crew in here,” Leith said during the tour.

Anyone who has ever tried to host a holiday dinner knows how quickly a kitchen can fill up. Now imagine fitting cameras, lighting equipment, sound technicians, producers and directors into that same space—all while leaving room to actually cook. Many beautiful home kitchens simply can’t handle the logistics. Leith’s can, and that practical magic is part of what makes the show feel so intimate.

A whirlwind 3-week filming schedule

The tour also pulled back the curtain on just how intensive the production really is. Leith revealed that the show films 15 episodes per series—and the most recent series was completed in a remarkable three weeks.

“We do 15 episodes in a series. Last one we did in three weeks, one episode a day, so three weeks, wow, five days a week, and it’s all crammed into three weeks, so that’s lovely,” Leith said.

One episode per day, five days a week, for three consecutive weeks. It’s a pace that would leave most of us reaching for a strong cup of tea and a long nap. But Leith? She seems to thrive on it.

“I didn’t, you know, it’s not lots of space between. I love to get things on and done,” she said.

A revolving door of delightful guests

One of the highlights of the show is the rotating cast of guests who join Leith in her colorful kitchen. Each episode brings someone new, and the lineup is wonderfully eclectic.

“We have various guests; we had Blake Lively last week, so that was exciting,” Leith shared.

A celebration of countryside life

While Leith handles the cooking indoors, her husband John Playfair heads out into the wider Cotswold community to meet the people who keep rural traditions alive.

“My husband goes up and discovers various things about the cultures, like great producers, or beekeepers or people who lay hedges in the old-fashioned way, or dry stone walling. I love a country show. It’s what the world needs now,” Leith explained.

A kitchen that’s truly an extension of Prue

In the end, the tour offered fans something more than a peek at pretty decor. It revealed how thoroughly Leith’s personality is stamped on every corner of her show—from the cheerful color palette to the breakneck filming pace to the lovely mix of guests and countryside features.

The kitchen is warm, bright and full of life—much like Prue herself. And watching her give the tour, it’s clear that this room isn’t just where she films a television show. It’s an extension of who she is—a woman who has built a life and a career exactly the way she wanted, and who still finds joy in inviting others into it.
