The Pioneer Woman Ree Drummond Shares Her Christmas Traditions: ‘I Decided to Change Things Up’
Plus, what movies the chef is watching this time of year
Just like the rest of the world, celebrity chef Ree Drummond is gearing up to get ready for the holidays. But what exactly does Christmas look like for the Drummond family out in Pawhuska, Oklahoma? Well, with the help of our elves, we have found four Ree Drummond Christmas traditions that are both adorable and easy to replicate in your own home. Keep scrolling for more!
1. Matching Christmas pajamas
Something cute that the Drummond family does every Christmas is wear matching pajamas, which they open every year on Christmas Eve.
“I spend an inordinate amount of time scouring the world (well, the world wide web) for Christmas pajamas that have any sort of strange, funny, weird or wacky angle. The more embarrassing, the better,” Drummond explained in her blog. “I prefer not to select any Christmas pajamas that fall under the ‘sweet’ or ‘lovely’ category. I place the order and hide them so no one can possibly see them before the holidays.” Last year, the Drummond family dressed up in reindeer pajamas, for example.”
As for how the chef keeps it a secret from her family, she simply says she wraps “each set of Christmas pajamas individually.”
“I wait as long as I can on Christmas Eve until one of the kids finally can’t stand it anymore and says ‘So, what are our Christmas pajamas going to be this year?’” she continued. “I always respond by feigning surprise and regret and saying ‘Oh no! The Christmas pajamas! Kids, I’m so sorry—Mom forgot this year!’ To which they always laugh and say, ‘Yeah, right’ but then I keep it going for so long that I eventually convince at least one of them that I have, in fact, forgotten the pajamas. It’s so wonderful.”
Then, after a lot of anticipation, the family unwraps the pajamas, puts them on and takes a picture. As of now, the 2024 theme has not been announced, but it’s safe to assume that both the
The Drummond family and their fans are anxious to see what it is.
2. Decorating the Christmas tree
It’s no surprise that The Pioneer Woman goes all out when it comes to decorating for the holidays, and this year, in particular, she is especially excited about her tree, which she says is real because she loves “ the scent and the mess.”
For decorations this year, Drummond chose to do rainbow twinkly lights, which she says “took me the greater part of the day and four long movies.”
‘[The] movies I watched [were] The Insider (Russell Crowe), No Country For Old Men, Interstellar [and] Inception.”

3. Making Christmas cookies
Given that Drummond is a celebrity chef, her being excited to make Christmas cookies makes total sense! This year, the chef made what she calls “the best cookies in the world.”
We are, of course, talking about her beloved brown sugar oatmeal cookies that, according to the chef, are “dark and magical, chewy and dense, delicious and delicious.”
She also revealed that they are “the key to Ladd’s [Drummond, her husband] happiness,” so for the 2024 holiday season, she had to make “an additional seven batches” of the dough.
4. Christmas shopping
Finally, one thing that Drummond has to do every year is go shopping for gifts.
And for the 2024 season, she says she started “shopping early this year because I’m usually scrambling in the last two weeks to find everyone the perfect gift.”
“Yes, I do thrive on tight deadlines (I’ve sure had a lot of practice with them!), but I decided to change things up for Christmas 2024.”
And while what she got for her family still remains a mystery, we do know one thing that will be under the tree: Christmas-themed pajamas for the whole family.
