It’s time to go back to the beach, because Baywatch is officially returning. That’s right, surfers, the beloved drama show centered around lifeguards is getting yet another spinoff, and we cannot wait. Read on to discover everything you need to know about the cast, plot, release date and if any of the members of the 1990s show and 2017 movie are scheduled to appear in it.

What to know about the ‘Baywatch’ spinoff

In September of this year, Fox along with the Fremantle production company officially ordered a 12 episode run for a Baywatch spinoff TV show. Matt Nix (Burn Notice and Good Guys)  will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz—creators of the original Baywatch— and Dante Di Loreto will also be executive producers on the show.

“In its first run, Baywatch defined an entire era of beach life and elevated lifeguards to an iconic status. Now, with our partners at Fremantle, this television juggernaut is set for a modern-day comeback,” Michael Thorn, the president of Fox Television Network said in a statement, per Variety. “Together, Fox and Fremantle, along with Matt Nix and original co-creator Greg Bonann, will bring the California dream to a whole new generation of fans with fresh stories, rising stars and all the spectacle that make the Baywatch franchise a global sensation.”

There haven’t been any plot details about the new series released, though if it’s anything like the original, it will follow a team of gorgeous lifeguards who help protect their beloved beach. They will also most likely run in slow motion at some point.

Baywatch has always been a treasured asset in Fremantle’s portfolio and remains one of the most iconic series in television history globally. We have found the perfect partners in Fox to help us maintain this legacy. With Matt Nix at the helm, we are in great hands, as he excels at telling engaging and entertaining stories,” Christian Vesper, CEO of global drama for Fremantle said in a statement. “Our goal is to reconnect with existing fans while also introducing a new generation to the world of these famous lifeguards.”

Get to know the ‘Baywatch’ spinoff cast

Currently, there are no casting updates for the Baywatch spinoff, which doesn’t have an official title yet.

When they do begin announcing the cast, one of the biggest questions will be if people like David Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson and Yasmine Bleeth from the 1990s Baywatch will be involved.

Hasselhoff and Anderson did appear in the 2017 film Baywatch, which starred Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Zac Efron and Alexandra Daddario—three people who could potentially make an appearance in the new spinoff.

“It was a lot of fun. I had to get into pretty good shape, because you stand next to The Rock— TheRock is like a man-and-a-half and Zac is right behind him,” Hasselhoff said in 2016, per ABC News. “So I went into the gym and pumped a little bit, but the best part about it was they were extremely nice. They gave me respect as the guy who created the role and they were lovely people.”

“My daughter has always said, ‘Dad, get in the game,’” he continued. “‘Get in the game because you can be watching it on television, or you can be in the game.’ So, I’m in the game.”

‘Baywatch’ spinoff show release date

The Baywatch spinoff show will air on Fox sometime between 2026 and 2027. Of course, if you can’t wait that long to return to the beach, you can always watch the TV show on Amazon Prime Video and the movie on AppleTV+.
