TOP STORIES

For every nail-biting plot twist and headache-inducing scheme, there’s a dollop of romance in soap operas that brings us back down to Earth. Though many of our favorite nuptials gradually came crashing down, others have stood the test of time and remind us that it isn’t all kidnappings and stolen babies in the world of soap operas. Here, take a look at six of the most iconic soap opera weddings from over the years.

Steve and Betsy—As the World Turns

Whether it was their iconic love story or Betsy and Steve’s portrayers that were so beloved, their 1984 nuptials went down in history. Betsy, played by none other than Meg Ryan, and Steve, played by Frank Runyeon, brought to life one of the most famous couples on As the World Turns. The duo unfortunately faced drama at every turn leading up to the moment in which they tied the knot, from Betsy entering a loveless marriage to her staying with him out of guilt when he faked paralysis. Betsy and Steve’s wedding was said to have brought in 20 million viewers, and though the couple didn’t last, it’s a ceremony we love to look back on.

Eden and Cruz—Santa Barbara

Another iconic soap couple, Eden and Cruz from Santa Barbara, had a wedding to remember. However, the journey it took to get to the altar was certainly something. From family issues to murder attempts to both parties entering loveless marriages when external forces tore them apart, it seemed as if this couple weren’t destined to be. However, in 1988, Eden and Cruz finally said “I do” in a ceremony that was worth the wait.

Steffy and Liam—The Bold and the Beautiful

We’re all for spontaneity when it comes to soap operas, and the marriage between Steffy and Liam was as spontaneous as it gets. Stood atop a mountain with his ex stuck on a gondola, unable to interrupt, this wedding was one for the books.

Bo and Hope—Days of Our Lives

Not many soap couples can say they got their happy ending in a royal wedding, but Bo and Hope certainly can! Though this famed couple have actually said “I do,” more than once, it was when their career adventures took them to England that they had their most iconic one. Saving a member of the royal family from a plotted attack, they were granted a royal wedding of their own as a thank you. It doesn’t get soapier than that!

Nikki and Victor—The Young and the Restless

Another couple who tied the knot multiple times, the relationship between these two has at times been tumultuous, with drama and affairs peppered throughout in true soap fashion. However, the very first ceremony that took place between the duo is one we’ll never forget.

Luke and Laura—General Hospital

Easily the most iconic wedding in soap opera history, nothing compares to the wedding between General Hospital’s Luke and Laura. The major television event drew in 30 million viewers and made history within the soap world as the most-watched event to occur. Iconic to this day!
