The cast of the ’90s drama series, My So-Called Life, has had more than a so-called reunion at Televerse, a festival held by the Television Academy this weekend. The stars of the series were able to come together and revisit the lasting impact that their one-season show had and how it’s affected teen TV today. Here’s everything fans of the cult ’90s TV show—which gave Claire Danes her start—need to know about who attended the panel and how the short-lived series became an Xennial classic.
What happened at the ‘My So-Called Life’ cast reunion panel?
The immersive annual television festival was held this past weekend at the JW Marriott at L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles, offering fans an inside look at their favorite shows as well as cast reunions, TV show screenings, interactive workshops and For Your Consideration (FYC) panels.
“Despite only airing 19 episodes in total, Winnie Holzman’s authentic look at the inner life of 15-year-old Angela Chase (played by Claire Danes) and the lives of her friends and family in the suburbs of Pittsburgh changed TV—and teen narratives—forever,” a summary for the My So-Called Life panel reads. “The series not only redefined what a ‘coming of age’ story could look like; it fearlessly explored the social issues of the mid-1990s, from homophobia and homelessness to school violence, teenage alcoholism and more.”
Throughout the panel, the discussion ranged from “the show’s legacy and impact on the teen TV canon as we know it today, to its timeless ability to connect with new audiences more than 30 years later.”
Fans got to see their favorite stars reunite on stage on August 14 for an hour-long session where they discussed everything My So-Called Life.
