Remember ‘Firefly’? See What the Cast Has Been Up to After The Show’s Single Season
Did you watch this series?
Over the years, countless shows have come and gone on our screens, leaving fans with nothing more than a single season—and Firefly was one of them. Taking place largely aboard a spacecraft, the unique crew of characters at the helm of this vessel navigate life in the wake of a universal civil war, taking on odd jobs here and there to make ends meet. Here, see where the cast of Firefly, including Nathan Fillion and Gina Torres, are today.
Nathan Fillion as Captain Malcom ‘Mal’ Reynolds

Nathan Fillion took the lead in Firefly, the 2002 science fiction drama series, and though this particular show was short lived, his television career certainly didn’t end there. From 2009 to 2016, he led the series Castle alongside Stana Katic as a mystery novelist who lends his hand to the NYPD with solving crimes. After Castle came to an end, his career certainly didn’t slow down, as his resume is filled with both guest roles as well as leading roles in series such as The Rookie. Most recently, you probably caught him in the latest Superman film as Guy Gardner or Green Lantern.
Gina Torres as Zoe Washburne

After Gina Torres said goodbye to the Serenity, she had something of a career pivot when she dipped her toes into the legal world in the hit legal drama Suits as Jessica Pearson, followed by the spin-off series, Pearson. Some of her other prominent roles over the last two decades since Firefly concluded include her more recent stint in 9-1-1: Lone Star.
“The cast of Firefly has continued to have our own little text message thread,” she told Entertainment Weekly back in 2022. “We really are each other’s friends and allies and cheerleaders.”
Alan Tudyk as Hoban ‘Wash’ Washburne

In the years after Firefly, Alan Tudyk appeared on screen here and there in shows like Suburgatory, Arrested Development and The Rookie alongside his former Firefly co-star Nathan Fillion, but this actor has spent much of the recent years of his career focused on voice work. Perhaps you’ve heard him in projects such as Superman (2025), Andor, Moana (2016), Frozen (2013) or Zootopia (2016).
Morena Baccarin as Inara Serra

Morena Baccarin has also gone on to have a successful career on the screen, appearing in both television and film projects that have put her on the map. She’s starred alongside Ryan Reynolds in the Deadpool films and has also appeared in series such as V, Homeland and Fire Country. This fall, she’s set to star in the Fire Country spin-off series, Sheriff Country.
Adam Baldwin as Jayne Cobb

After Firefly, Adam Baldwin took on several roles in various television series. Shows like Angel, The Inside, Day Break, Chuck and The Last Ship fill his resume, with one of his most recent television roles being on 9-1-1: Lone Star.
Jewel Staite as Kaylee Frye

Jewel Staite brought Kaylee Fry to life, and her resume after Firefly consists of roles on TV both big and small. Over the years, you may have seen her on series such as Stargate: Atlantis, The L.A. Complex or The Killing, and recently, she’s been shining in Family Law and Resident Alien.
Sean Maher as Dr. Simon Tam

After Firefly, Sean Maher appeared in the follow-up film Serenity (2005), and the actor continued to appear in television series over the years in guest roles. You might have caught him in an episode of The Rookie, 9-1-1 or Eastsiders.
Summer Glau as River Tam

Summer Glau had a stint on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, as well as series like The Cape, The 4400, The Unit and Dollhouse. She also left her mark on shows in more recent years such as Arrow and Sequestered.
Ron Glass as Shepherd Derrial Book

Ron Glass brought Shepherd Derrial Book to life, and in the years after Firefly, could be seen in series such as Shark, CSI: NY and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Sadly, he passed away in 2016.
