The Clyburn brothers die

Anyone who watched The Madison trailer assumed that someone was going to die. What they didn’t know though was that two people were going to die. While visiting his brother Paul (Matthew Fox) in the Madison River Valley in Montana, Preston Clyburn (Kurt Russell) the two decide to go for a ride on Paul’s plane. The plane eventually crashes, and the brothers die.

Then, after learning about the passing, Stacy Clyburn (Michelle Pfeiffer) and her family decide to leave New York City and head to Montana to honor the duo. It’s a heartbreaking moment that really sets the course for the rest of the series.

“I worked with Kurt over a decade ago [on the 2015 film Bone Tomahawk], and that was a big draw for me,” Fox revealed to Woman’s World about his time on set. “I just really like him as a person and as an actor, so it just felt like us as brothers was going to be really fun. And it was. It was like no time had passed, and we dropped right into that dynamic very organically. The whole thing felt great.”

“It was a lot of fun. We had a lot of laughs. And we had a lot of laughs in scenes. These two brothers don’t see each other that much, and so Madison is the place that they get to spend time together,” the actor continued. “Paul would love it if Preston came and spent more time on the Madison with him, but he cherishes the moments that he gets with his older brother.  Paul is carrying a certain weight of his own loss underneath, but that’s not the kind of thing that when you’re hanging out with your brother for [only] a couple of weeks that you’re going to bring up. You’re gonna do everything you can to stay in that joy and just enjoy that person that you miss and that you love.”

Robert Redford was mentioned

To many people’s delight, the first three episodes of The Madison were dedicated to late award-winning actor Robert Redford. The reason for that? Back when Sheridan was first trying to get the Yellowstone universe off the ground, he actually talked to Redford, hoping that he would star in it.

“I drive to Sundance and spend the day with him [Redford] and he agrees to play John Dutton,” Sheridan told The Hollywood Reporter in 2023. “I called the senior vice president [of HBO, who was working on the show at the time] in charge of production and said, ‘I got him!’ ‘You got who?’ ‘Robert Redford.’ ‘What?!‘ ‘You said if I got Robert Redford, you’d greenlight the show.’”

In the end, Yellowstone was produced by Paramount—not HBO—and there is no information available as to why Redford was replaced by Kevin Costner.

After mourning Paul and Preston, Stacy and her family decide to stay in Montana a little while longer and learn what in the world is so special about this place. These themes will most definitely be discussed in the last three episodes of the show, which we cannot wait to watch
