Ellen DeGeneres Catches Audience Member Stealing, Then Teaches Her a Lesson
Ellen DeGeneres and hidden cameras are like peanut butter and jelly; they go hand in hand. That’s why it’s so shocking that a fan of the TV host wouldn’t think she’d be on camera—while she was stealing something from her show!
Yes, really. Last fall, Ellen had set up a table of free items outside the studio where visitors could take one—just one home with them. In a clip that just now made it online, a woman named Nancy could be seen on camera at the table not only coming back more than once for different items, but even swapping out one extra item for another one. It gets even more cringe-worthy; when another visitor called her out on it, she told them to “shut up.”

But in the studio, Nancy was the one shutting up when Ellen herself publicly called her out for stealing—and showed the clip for good measure. Nancy did have an excuse, that the extra item was actually for her sister, who wasn’t able to make it to the show that day. But Ellen wasn’t buying it.
“A lot of people’s sisters couldn’t come,” the TV host said, all smiles.
Then, right there in front of everybody, Ellen ordered Nancy to go to “Ellen Jail,” in a seat on a high chair on the stage.
“Let that be a lesson to you,” she said. “You think nobody’s watching you, and you just need to be a good person.”
