Melissa McCarthy Makes Hilarious Video for Meghan Markle’s 40th Birthday — With a Goofy Prince Harry Cameo
Meghan Markle’s 40th birthday is kicking off with a few laughs from two very special people in her life. In a new video, she’s joined by good friend and actress Melissa McCarthy along with her husband Prince Harry to mark the milestone — and announce a special initiative.
The hilarious video was posted this morning on Harry and Meghan’s Archewell charity website. It involves Meghan trying to share an important announcement with McCarthy over Zoom, but the actress quickly adds her own quirk to the chat. She starts things off by putting on a formal hat, white gloves, and sipping from a tea cup in a wink to her friend’s royal status.
McCarthy then makes several guesses about what Meghan’s big news is: Are they getting matching tattoos? (Meghan jokes that she’ll consider when she turns 50.) McCarthy also wonders whether it’s another photoshoot under a tree, similar to Meghan’s pregnancy announcement for baby Lilibet, or perhaps a Suits reunion. Meghan laughs off her friend’s humorous speculation before finally sharing details about her latest altruistic endeavor.
It’s called 40×40 and involves Meghan asking 40 friends to donate 40 minutes of their time to mentor a woman who’s getting back into the workforce. The duchess was drawn to this campaign after seeing the high female unemployment numbers due to Covid-19 and hopes it’ll have a ripple effect for building more confidence in women.
“With this time, I hope they each help someone advance a professional life on her own terms, and, I hope that they inspire countless others to give 40 minutes of their time as well,” she wrote in a statement below the video.
McCartney loved the idea, saying, “Yes times 40!” — as long as she can keep her fancy hat on during the mentorship time. The two friends then end their call, but the video continues with a funny blooper of McCarthy asking Meghan if she could have afternoon tea with her chickens.
As Meghan answers this silly question, we can see Harry juggling outside in the nearby window. It clearly took Meghan by surprise, but she, McCarthy, and the production crew got a good laugh at the prince’s playful antics (a trait that seems to run in the royal family!).
