This Microwave Hack Will Reheat Your Leftovers Much More Evenly — and in Less Time

Tags:

I don’t know about you, but I’ve had more than a few occasions where I wanted to reheat leftovers in the microwave and they turned out completely uneven, both in terms of temperature and texture. It feels like half of my food is scorching hot while the other half is frozen solid. Luckily, there’s a super quick fix for this common cooking problem. It’s the only hack you need to microwave leftovers evenly!

This trick comes from TikTok user @howdoesshe, and it’s really simple. Instead of taking the lid off of your leftovers container and sticking it directly into your microwave, put your food on a plate and spread it out into a ring shape with space left in the middle. The reason? You’ll have a thinner layer of food and more places for your microwave’s radio frequency waves to go. Plus, your food will cook more evenly. No more stopping and starting your microwave to stir your food around!

Trying It Out Myself

I tested out this hack with a container of leftover mac ‘n’ cheese I had on hand from earlier in the week. The issue I typically have with any form of pasta is that half of it will cook just fine if I need to reheat it in the microwave. However, the inside parts will still be super cold. No matter what I do, the temperature is still never the same throughout.

Sure enough, the ring strategy did the trick: I was able to reheat all of my mac ‘n’ cheese in one go without having to constantly turn the microwave on and off to mix it, taste test it, and see if it was all warm. Maybe it was just me, but my food was a lot tastier, too. I wish I’d discovered this simple way to microwave leftovers sooner!
