This Natural DIY Cleaner Will Make Your Windows and Mirrors Sparkle

Make your own non-toxic cleaning solution for pennies.

The weekend is here, and for many of us, that means it’s time to tidy up the house. Lately, I’m favoring natural cleaning products and solutions over chemical-laden store bought versions, and one of my favorite ingredients to use for cleaning is essential oils.

Essential oils come in so many varieties that are good for multiple purposes. The best essential oils for cleaning not only make your home smell amazing, but they’re great for disinfecting, sanitizing, and shining areas and items around your whole house.

Recently, I went in search of an essential oil glass cleaner that I could use on mirrors and windows in my house. It might seem counterintuitive to rub an oil all over your glass surfaces to get them clean, but trust me, the recipe I found made my mirrors sparkle!

I discovered this essential oil glass cleaner on One Essential Community from blogger Sara Lewis. While she suggests using a few different combinations of oils, I opted for peppermint and lemon essential oil.

The secret ingredients that make this essential oil glass cleaner so effective are vodka or rubbing alcohol, and cornstarch! Vodka or rubbing alcohol are great glass cleaners because they evaporate quickly, leaving your glass surfaces shiny and streak-free! According to Lewis and other experts online, cornstarch is ideal for clearing streaks and spots because it binds to the water that gets trapped in the tiny pits on your glass surfaces. I’ve also seen some other similar recipes for essential oil glass cleaners without the cornstarch, so if you don’t have any on hand, you can try omitting it from this recipe.
