King Charles III’s Grandchildren: Get to Know All 5 Adorable Royals
These rambunctious princes and princesses keep His Majesty on his toes!

Being king is no walk in the park. From day-to-day public appearances, serving as a patron for charities across the country, and being the face of the royal institution, King Charles III wears many hats. The life of a royal on any given day is jam-packed, but there’s perhaps one role that stands out among his duties — grandfather. King Charles III has five grandchildren in total, each of whom boasts their own unique temperament, interests and personality.
About King Charles III
Charles was born on November 14, 1948, to Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip. Philip, who passed away in 2021, and Elizabeth, who passed away in 2022, had three additional children: Anne, Edward and Andrew.
Charles’ upbringing was that of a typical royal, but he broke the mold of receiving fully private tutoring when he attended an actual school. He then went on to Trinity College, Cambridge, where he studied archaeology, anthropology and history.

In 1969, he was crowned Prince of Wales. He eventually served in the Royal Air Force and the Royal Navy, in which he had an accomplished career during his service. In 1977, Lady Diana Spencer came into the picture.
A courtship watched by the world

His first introduction to Diana Spencer came when he was pursuing her older sister, Sarah, on a visit to her family’s estate in Northamptonshire. Things ended between Charles and Sarah by 1978, but in July of 1980, Charles and Diana crossed paths once again at their mutual friend’s home in Sussex.
It was there where Diana made an effort to comfort Charles about the recent passing of his uncle, Lord Mountbatten, and from then, the seed was planted. By February of 1981, the couple was engaged.

The duo got married in July of 1981 and welcomed two children: Prince William in 1982 and Prince Harry in 1984. From the early days of their initial union, the couple was plagued with tension. This culminated over the course of their relationship in the form of distance, unhappiness and rumored extramarital affairs. Famously, Charles’ affair with Camila Parker Bowles was said to have begun in 1986. It wasn’t until 1992 that he and Diana called it quits.

The tragic death of Princess Diana
The divorce of Charles and Diana was finalized in 1996. Tragically, only a year later, she was killed in a car crash with her then partner, Dodi Al Fayed, as they were attempting to flee paparazzi. Her death not only shook the monarchy, but shook the world entirely. Today, however, her legacy continues to be carried on by her two sons, William and Harry, and their children.
King Charles III’s children
King Charles’ two sons, William and Harry, have grown up in the spotlight as children of the royal family. While they’ve both chosen different paths, their upbringing has influenced nearly every aspect of their lives.

King Charles III oldest son, Prince William

The oldest son to Charles and Diana, Prince William is the heir to the throne after Charles passes. He is married to Catherine, Princess of Wales, and the duo has three children.
William is a patron of over thirty charities and does admirable work with The Royal Foundation, a charity spearheaded by him and his wife that focuses on mental health, conservation of nature and emergency workers.
William once told royal correspondent Nicholas Witchell from Marie Claire on being king: “I certainly don’t lie awake at night waiting or hoping for it because it sadly means my family has moved on and I don’t want that.”

King Charles III second son, Prince Harry

Although he has pursued a different route for his life, Prince Harry still remains an integral part of the unit, despite no longer having the title he once did. Harry’s upbringing was similar to that of William’s.
Like his brother, he’s spent the past two decades of his life giving back to charities, raising awareness regarding mental health and launching his own charitable endeavor, The Invictus Games, which aims “to celebrate the unconquered human spirit and shine a spotlight on these men and women who served,” according to their site.

Harry married American actress Meghan Markle in 2018, and they had their first child, Archie, in 2019. In January of 2020, Harry announced their royal exit. In 2021, their daughter, Lilibet, was born. The family currently leads a life away from the royal hustle and bustle in California.
King Charles III grandchildren
Between William and Harry, there are five King Charles III grandchildren. Get to know each of them and their adorable faces.
Prince George

The eldest child of William and Kate, Prince George was born on July 22, 2013. Back in 2015, in an interview with Sky News, King Charles described little George as “one of those characters who naturally, instinctively likes to be outside.” At Charles’ coronation, George served as a Page of Honor.

Princess Charlotte

The second oldest child and only daughter of William and Kate is Princess Charlotte. She is eight years old and was born on May 2, 2015. Much like her older brother, Charlotte has been brought up learning the customs and traditions of the royal family, as noted during moments in the public where she’s seen hilariously correcting her brother’s behavior. Talk about a royal in training!
Prince Louis

The youngest son of William and Kate is 5-year-old Prince Louis. He was born on April 23, 2018. Of the three children, Louis has shown to be the spunkiest, often pulling funny faces, yawning during ceremonies, and moving around his seat. Regardless, the youngster has a very sweet relationship with his grandfather, as seen during Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations when he opted to sit on grandpa’s lap.
Prince Archie

Archie is the first son of Harry and Meghan. He is 4 years old and was born on May 6, 2019. Eight months after Archie was born, Harry and Meghan announced their departure from the royal family, putting distance between their son and Charles.
Harry told People, “I’ve said before that I’ve wanted a family, not an institution — so of course, I would love nothing more than for our children to have relationships with members of my family, and they do with some, which brings me great joy.”
Princess Lilibet “Lili” Diana
Lilibet is King Charles’ fifth grandchild. The 2-year-old, born on June 4, 2021, was named for Queen Elizabeth, whose nickname was Lilibet. Despite the physical distance between she and her grandfather, as she is being raised in California, she was united with him in 2022 for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Which of King Charles III grandchildren is next in line for the throne?
The line of succession to the throne is a complicated one. When King Charles passes, Prince William will take the throne. After him, Prince George is next, followed by his sister, Princess Charlotte. Prince Louis would be next, followed by Prince Harry, despite him stepping down as a senior member of the royal family. After Harry would come his son Archie, followed by daughter Lili.
