Although you can still buy Tupperware products today and even host your own Tupperware party, we can’t help but think back on the early days of the phenomenon whenever we see the plasticware. Earl Silas Tupper developed the household items back in 1946, but it wasn’t until the 1950s that the party method of selling really got big. According to the National Museum of American History, that’s all thanks to one woman: Brownie Wise. The company had already been using parties as a way to sell their products, but Brownie made them known around the world. She was so impressive, in fact, that Tupper created a whole new company around the idea (Tupperware Home Parties Inc.) and named Brownie as vice president.
