Fight Wrinkles, Hair Loss, and Inflammation With This Tropical Green Smoothie

Tags:

Sometimes the physical aspects of aging can be upsetting. While there are medications and techniques to try and ease their unpleasantness, most take time before they show results. Aren’t there any easy solutions to things like thinning hair, aching joints, and wrinkles?

Actually, yes. We have one that addresses them all, and it’s so simple you can start doing it at any time. It’s a green smoothie that has some serious anti-aging superpowers.

Adding collagen to your diet can help with aching joints.

My tropical green smoothie contains ingredients that not only taste ah-mazing, but also fight the signs of aging, from wrinkles to hair thinning to inflamed, achey joints. One of the secret ingredients? Collagen powder.

Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies. It makes up our connective tissues and gives structure to our skin, muscles, tendons, bones, ligaments, and cartilage. After the age of 25, however, our natural collagen production slows down. As a result, our skin can start to lose its tautness, hydration, and elasticity. Not only that, but we become more susceptible to weak bones and creaky, achey joints. Collagen even contains some of the amino acids necessary for healthy hair! Thankfully, nowadays you can add a collagen supplement into your daily routine to help replenish your sources of this vital protein to restore skin and hair health, and nourish all your tissues! (Check out our favorite collagen powders, here.)

Coconut water keeps your skin supple.

The base for this smoothie is coconut water, which is the perfect hydrating beverage for the summer. Why? Because it contains electrolytes, which help to balance fluids in the body. Next, add in a handful of greens — I switch between spinach and kale — which are packed with antioxidants, vitamin C, and fiber. Leafy greens help fight chronic inflammation that can lead to premature aging, joint pain, weight gain, and more serious health conditions.

Antioxidants and healthy fat nourish your hair.

The smoothie’s vibrant tropical flavor comes from my favorite seasonal fruits — pineapple and mango — both of which contain beneficial vitamins and minerals. And last but not least, I throw in a quarter of a ripe avocado for added creaminess. Avocados are packed with omega-3 fats, which improve skin elasticity and hydration, contribute to healthy, luscious hair, and help to ward off disease.

If you’re ready to get sipping, check out the recipe below.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces coconut water
  • 1 handful leafy greens, kale or spinach
  • 1 cup frozen pineapple or mango chunks (or use 1/2 cup of both!)
  • 1/4 ripe avocado
  • 1 scoop collagen powder

Just combine all these ingredients in a blender, and you’re done. Voila: we hope you love this refreshing summer sip as much as we do. Here’s to beauty that starts from the inside out!
