Spooky season is just around the corner and CBS is ready to celebrate in the form of their comedic fantasy show Ghosts. The supernatural show, set at a bed and breakfast, is coming back for a fifth season, and below we have everything you need to know about the cast, plot, release date and more.

What to know about ‘Ghosts’ Season 5

Ghosts is a network show that follows Samantha (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) after they decide to turn a rundown mansion  into a dreamy bed and breakfast. Soon, though, they discover that the place is overrun with ghosts, who, due to a head injury, Samantha can see and interact with. And that’s when things get spooky.

In Season 5 specifically, Sam and Jay work together to try and release Jay from his deal with the ghost Elias Woodstone—who’s working at claiming souls for the devil (Matt Walsh).

“They don’t tend to tell us much too far in advance. I think they know we’ve got a lot of loose lips amongst us. Just yesterday, I started fishing around in the group chat,” McIver told The Hollywood Reporter of Season 5 in June of this year. “They threw us a little bit of a chum about a couple of teases for the first couple of episodes back this year. But, no, we are all kind of anxiously waiting as much as the fans are to know how we dig ourselves out of this one.”

Along with acting, McIver has also directed several episodes of the show, telling the news outlet,

“There were moments, especially when I was directing and acting in the same material. That was a rude shock. You just cannot prepare for having to have a split screen in your brain—focusing on being lost in your character while going through the mental checklist.”

“All of the multitasking was more than I could have anticipated. I started to get a groove on by the end,” she continued. “Everyone fantasizes about this profession and this industry being so deeply creative and born of impulse and character. The truth is that there are so many logistics. So many schedules to navigate. I love how you still have to try to find the heart and the art in it all, even though so much of it is managing everything behind the scenes.”

Get to know the ‘Ghosts’ Season 5 cast

Along with McIver, Ambudkar and Walsh, Brandon Scott Jones, Mary Holland, Richie Moriarty and Danielle Pinnock are expected to return for Season 5 of Ghosts

“I think this show, first of all, is so fun for the whole family, but it also brings up really great discussions for the family as well, one of which is what happens in the afterlife. Maybe the afterlife is just a bunch of your friends and relatives all quarantined together in one big old mansion. That would be the dream,” Pinnock told Out in November 2024. “The thing that is also so beautiful about this series is that our two lead characters, Sam and Jay, played by Rose McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar, are giving these ghosts life even in their afterlife. Their lives were very mundane in the afterlife, and all they were talking about was cod. That was really it.”

“There was a reporter recently that said Ghosts is criminally overlooked. We have a great audience and people are starting to slowly figure out what this show is about and they’re becoming fans of it,” she continued. “One of the things I will say is I have to give a huge shout-out to Joe Port and Joe Wiseman. These are our incredible showrunners and we have some of the best writers on broadcast TV, and the proof is really in the pudding. We’re bringing in seven to 10 million people per week to watch this series.”

‘Ghosts’ Season 5 release date

Ghosts will return to CBS on Thursday, October 16. If you cannot wait that long to return to the spooky world, you can watch the other seasons on Paramount+.
