Luke Grimes’ ‘Marshals’ Renewed For Season 2—and Fans Are Already Buzzing About What’s Next
The ‘Yellowstone’ spinoff is coming back—here's what we know about Kayce Dutton's next chapter
Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) fans, we have some exciting news! The hit Yellowstone spinoff show Marshals (formerly known as Y: Marshals) is officially coming back for a second season, even though Season 1 isn’t even over yet.
“Marshals delivered a breakout performance, capturing a massive audience across platforms and quickly establishing itself as one of TV’s most powerful new series,” CBS Entertainment prexy Amy Reisenbach said in a statement, per Variety. “The overwhelming viewer response speaks to the strength of the Yellowstone world, the bold character driven storytelling from the creative team and the dynamic cast performances led by Luke Grimes.”

What we know about Season 2 of ‘Marshals’
Marshals follows Kayce Dutton after he joins the United States Marshals to help serve and protect the beloved state of Montana. It was created by Taylor Sheridan, and comes after the highly successful modern day Western show Yellowstone stole viewers’ hearts for five years.
“I was really on the fence when Taylor called and said, ‘I’m not going to tell you to do it, or not to do it. But meet them, because it’s a good idea for a show,'” Grimes told USA Today earlier this year. “This character is really his baby. But he really wanted this thing to take wings on its own.”

Currently, there is no word on what Marshals Season 2 will be about, mainly because Season 1 is still airing. What we do know is that Season 2 will most likely be a procedural, even though Grimes wasn’t familiar with that description before the show.
“I had no clue what a procedural was. I’d never watched one, but my mom loves them,” Grimes said. “I was a little wary about whether it would work, taking this character from a show, Yellowstone, that was very much not a procedural. We sort of thread the needle to marry the two worlds.”
‘Marshals’ Season 2 cast
Currently, there is no news on if anyone will be leaving or joining the Marshals Season 2 cast. One thing that’s for sure, though, is Kelsey Asbille won’t be appearing, since her character Monica Dutton was killed off prior to the Season 1 premiere.
“I worked up the courage to call [Asbille]. I didn’t know how she was going to feel about [Monica’s death],” Grimes told TV Insider. “I had to see how she was doing. We had a great conversation. In true Kelsey fashion, she handled it like a pro and totally understood. She’s going to do just fine. She is so talented, gorgeous and awesome. She’s going to work. That’s not an issue.”

“I was heartbroken for myself [too],” the actor continued. “It felt like, ‘I don’t even know what that would look like doing it without her, what that would feel like.’ Kelsey’s become one of my best friends. She’s the coolest actor I’ve ever worked with. She’s down to earth, sweet and kind to every other actor and the crew.”
