The Voice has named its winner for the 28th season: 20-year-old Aiden Ross, a member of Niall Horan’s team.

Prior to the win, Aiden was one of six remaining contestants, including Ralph Edwards, DEK of Hearts, Aubrey Nicole, Max Chambers and Jazz McKenzie. Aiden came out on top after a season of incredible performances.

I’m at a loss for words,” Ross wrote on Instagram. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I am filled with so much joy and gratitude. I’ve had the time of my life performing for you all this season, and I am beyond honored to be the Season 28 winner of The Voice 🏆I’ve grown so much as an individual and an artist, met some of my best friends, and learned from the very best in the industry. Thank you for following my journey… this is just the beginning💙Thank you for believing in me @niallhoran WE DID IT #teamniall for life🙌🏼”

Horan shared his own message for Aiden after he won, writing in an Instagram story, “Team Niall wins again! So proud of @aidenrossmusic!!”

This was Horan’s third time as a coach on the Voice, having previously been on seasons 23 and 24, and his third win, making his team undefeated.

Ross has been an avid music lover since he was a kid, singing with his family from a young age and writing his first song at age 7. The Voice winner later learned to play the guitar in seventh grade.

Come seventh grade, my dad was like, ‘Okay, man, I’m tired of playing guitar, it’s your turn,’” Ross told Texas A&M’s student newspaper, The Battalion, earlier this year. “He put a guitar in my hands, and I couldn’t really put it down, and that really became my thing.”

When he’s not lighting up The Voice stage with his incredible music, Aiden Ross is a college sophomore from College Station, Texas. He is currently attending Texas A&M University as an industrial distribution engineering major and is a member of multiple music organizations.

But while he was attending classes, Ross realized that he wanted to take his music seriously. So, he decided to audition for The Voice. Ross won the first 4-chair turn of the season, gaining the attention of all of this season’s coaches: Horan, Reba McEntire, Snoop Dogg and Michael Bublé.

As for whether he will return to college following his big win, Ross is undecided on that front for now.

“The decision on what I do after the show is based on what opportunities arise,” Ross shared. “If something in music pops up that is a viable opportunity, I will jump at it. If there’s a spark, I’m gonna fan that flame.”

What does Aiden Ross get as ‘The Voice’ winner?

Coming in first place on The Voice certainly has its perks. The first place winner of The Voice goes home with a Universal Music Group record deal and a cash prize of $100,000. On top of that, the winner and other contestants get to use their time on the show as a launchpad for their careers, with many gaining attraction just by being on the show.

Honestly, just so much gratitude,” Ross said after the finale when asked what was going through his mind. “I’ve been watching this show since I was a kid and I never knew it would really be me on the stage, let alone coming home with the chips [championship], so, it means everything.”
