Officer Pulls Over Solider to Give Him a Hug Instead of a Ticket

William Jazwinski thought he was getting a ticket when an officer pulled him over, so imagine his surprise when the cop asked if Jazwinski could step out of the car so the officer could hug him. But what the cop said after that will have you reaching for the tissues.

Jazwinski wrote about the heartwarming encounter on his Facebook page, saying that the officer pulled him over because he wanted to thank Jazwinski for his service. Realizing that the bumper sticker on his car was a giveaway that he had served, the two chatted about the military. Jazwinski told the officer that he had been deployed to Iraq for 15 months and had recently completed a PTSD program.

“My son went to Iraq,” the officer said. “He didnt [sic] make it home.”

The officer noticed the flag in Jazwinski’s car before saying that the one they had received for his son was at home. This was the point in their conversation when the officer asked if he could hug Jazwinski.

“You remind me of my son,” the cop said. “I pulled you over [because] I thought you were him. I still dont [sic] believe it most days hes [sic] gone.”

The two embraced and cried, Jazwinski wrote. “With tears in both our eyes i [sic] got out and hugged that man. Im [sic] talking about for a minute or two crying. Down to our knees crying. I needed that.”

Jazwinski ended his post by thanking all past and present military members, as well as their friends and families. His words reflect the struggles that many military members and their loved ones face, even if no one else can see them.

“To all the family and friends of soldiers, fighting or done fighting, God bless you. Your peace and your hearts. Its so hard without them, i [sic] know. This road is a tremendous one. Love to all.”

It’s easy to get wrapped up in our own little bubbles — fretting about how to clean an oven or beating ourselves up for not [losing weight fast]( enough. But we should never forget the battles our brave servicemen and servicewomen fight for us both at home and overseas.

We thank Jazwinski for his service, and we salute him.
