Air-Fryer Buttermilk Chicken

Thanks to a dash of cayenne in the marinade, these tender bone-in chicken pieces cook up with a kick, but you can omit it if you prefer less heat.

Serving Size:

6

Active Time:

25 minutes

Total Time:

2 hours, 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1½ cups buttermilk
  • 1 Tbs. cayenne pepper sauce
  • 1 tsp. garlic salt
  • 4 lbs. bone-in chicken pieces, skin removed
  • 2 cups Italian-style dry breadcrumbs
  • ⅓ cup flour
  • 1 tsp. dried thyme

Instructions

  1. In large bowl, mix buttermilk, hot sauce and garlic salt. Add chicken; toss until coated. Let stand 1 hr. Remove chicken marinade; discard marinade.
  2. Heat air fryer to air-fry at 325°F. Coat air fryer basket with cooking spray. In separate bowl, stir together breadcrumbs, flour and thyme. Working with one piece at a time, coat chicken with crumb mixture.
  3. In 2 batches, place chicken in basket; coat chicken with cooking spray. Place basket in air fryer. Air-fry until golden and chicken is no longer pink near bone, 25-30 min. per batch.
