Melty Baked Pasta with Sausage Recipe Is a Delicious Twist on an Italian Classic
This meaty dish is packed with tons of rich flavor
Pasta al forno (“baked pasta” or “pasta in the oven”) is an Italian casserole made with pasta, creamy tomato sauce and cheese. It may sound fancy and there are lots of variations, yet it couldn’t be simpler to make. That’s what inspired our Baked Pasta with Sausage recipe. It’s so ooey-gooey good, once you try it, it’s bound to become a new family favorite.
We start with casarecce. Its short, twisted shape is perfect for holding our from-scratch sauce. If you can’t find it, rotini, fusilli, gemelli – or even shells would be just as delicious. To make the sauce we brown sausage and onion, then stir canned tomatoes and red pepper right into the same skillet. Some of the sausage drippings and little browned bit in the bottom of the pan help create a rich, boldly flavored sauce. Then a generous helping of melty mozzarella makes it extra-irresistible. Cook along with our video and let us know what you think.
