See the ‘Supernatural’ Cast Today, 20 Years After the Show First Premiered—Jensen, Jared, Misha and More
Not many fandoms compare to this series!
On September 13, 2005, Supernatural premiered, and what followed was over a decade of monster hunting, brotherly bonds and a fandom that’s nearly impossible to define. The show’s cult following can of course be credited to the gripping storylines and intense plot, but also to the cast who brought the beloved characters at the heart of the series to life. “We really have become a family,” Jared Padalecki, who played Dean Winchester, told UsWeekly back in 2019. “Over 15 years, we’ve cut the fat. We didn’t fire anybody, but if they didn’t like being there, they move on. So the people that are there want to be there.” He continued, “We’ve known them for 15 years; we’ve seen births and deaths and divorces and marriages. I mean, I met my wife in season 4 and we have three kids! So much has happened. I feel such a deep connection with everybody.” Twenty years since the show premiered, see what the cast of Supernatural has been up to.
Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester

After Jensen Ackles said goodbye to Dean Winchester, his career certainly didn’t slow down. After Supernatural came to an end, he appeared in The Winchesters, a spin-off series that told the origin story of John and Mary Winchester. Outside of the Supernatural universe, he joined the cast of The Boys and it’s spin-off, Gen V, as Soldier Boy. Most recently, he appeared alongside Eric Dane in the Prime Video series Countdown.
Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester

While we loved Jared Padalecki in his role as Sam Winchester, many were already familiar with the actor thanks to his work on Gilmore Girls as the ever-controversial Dean. Post-Supernatural, the 43-year-old television star pulled on his cowboy hat in Walker and most recently, could be seen in the hit series Fire Country.
“The fans have raised millions of dollars for charities around the world, which is outstanding,” Padaelcki recently told TV Insider, reflecting on the show’s enduring supporters. “But also, to see the relationships, the support, and care they give each other? I don’t spend a lot of time on social media, but here and there I’ll get an alert or someone will say, ‘Hey, did you hear that this person [is going through] this or that?’ And I’ll go and see comments from members of the SPN family who’ve never met each other, that are just sending love. The internet can be such a hell-hole at times, social media specifically, so to see our fandom going, ‘You got this,’ ‘We believe in you,’ ‘You’ve been through worse, and we will see you on the other side’ and ‘Hope to meet you’—it is really awesome.”
Misha Collins as Castiel

Misha Collins played Castiel in Supernatural, and since then, he’s appeared in series like Gotham Knights and films like Encounter (2021). The actor has also released a book of poetry called Some Things I Still Can’t Tell You. Collins has been confirmed to appear in the fifth season of The Boys.
“It’s bittersweet, and we’re going to miss the show so much,” Misha told Assignment X back in 2020 regarding the show’s conclusion. “It’s such a big part of all of our lives. I think we’re all in the same place of feeling like we want to end strong without feeling like the show is wilted on the vine. We want it to feel like it’s going out with a bang, and I think we are.”
Mark Sheppard as Crowley

Mark Sheppard, who brought to life the character of Crowley in Supernatural, has also continued acting since the show ended, appearing in series such as Walker: Independence, Doom Patrol and most recently, Secret Level.
Jim Beaver as Bobby Singer

An old friend of John Winchester, Bobby Singer was something of a father figure to Sam and Dean, and after the show ended, lined his resume with gigs like B Positive, The Winchesters, and The Boys alongside Jensen Ackles. Ironically, Jim Beaver’s characters in both Supernatural and The Boys share the same name—which makes senes considering Eric Kripke created both shows!
Jeffrey Dean Morgan as John Winchester

Jeffrey Dean Morgan portrayed Sam and Dean’s father, John, and enjoyed continued success after the show ended. He showed his stuff on The Walking Dead, as well as in The Walking Dead: Dead City. Jeffrey also joined the cast of The Boys—talk about a Supernatural reunion!
Samantha Smith as Mary Winchester

Mary Winchester, Sam and Dean’s mom, was portrayed by Samantha Smith, who went on to act in series like 9-1-1, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Star Trek: Prodigy and FBI: Most Wanted.
Ruth Connell as Rowena MacLeod

Ruth Connell played Crowley’s mother Rowena, and she also appeared in the show’s spin-off The Winchesters. Some of her other post-Supernatural credits include The Cursed Man (2020) and Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose (2021), as well as Dead Boy Detectives.
Mark Pellegrino as Lucifer

Mark Pellegrino played the part of Lucifer, and he, too, has kept busy during his life after Supernatural. You may have caught him in American Rust, Underdeveloped or Class of ’09, to name a few of his credits.
Alexander Calvert as Jack Kline

After Supernatural, Alexander Calvert could be seen in Gen V, Lowlifes (2024) and Double Exposure (2024), to name a few of his credits.
