Key Takeaways

  • Fans are eager to see more ‘Yellowstone’ family members appear on ‘Dutton Ranch.’
  • ‘Landman’ crossover rumors continue to excite viewers because both shows are set in Texas.
  • Even cast members and directors have shared which Taylor Sheridan characters they want back.

We’re almost halfway through Season 1 of Dutton Ranch, and while there have been some callouts to original Yellowstone cast members, no one—aside from Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly), Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), and Carter (Finn Little)—has actually set foot in Texas, causing a bit of chaos among fans. And that’s not the only show people want to see cross over with the Beth and Rip spinoff. Some fans—and even cast members—are hoping to see characters from Landman or The Madison make their way to the Lone Star State. Below, we share the top five Taylor Sheridan characters people want to see in Dutton Ranch.

5. John Dutton III

Sure, John Dutton III died in Season 5 of Yellowstone as a result of actor Kevin Costner’s departure, but that hasn’t stopped fans from wanting him to appear in the show—whether in flashback or dream form. Not only would it help his death feel less abrupt, but it could also provide his daughter Beth with some much-needed comfort and closure. As for if it would happen, Costner has said that he would “love” return to the Yellowstone universe “under the right circumstances.”

“I think that’s what all of us want. For me, it really needs to be the right circumstances,” Costner said on the Today show in 2024. “There’s always a chance.”

4. Stacy Clyburn

When The Madison was first announced, everyone thought it was part of the Yellowstone universe. Production has since confirmed that that’s not true, but that hasn’t stopped fans from wanting a crossover between the two worlds. This includes The Madison and Dutton Ranch director, Christina Alexandra Voros, who told Woman’s World earlier this year, “I would love to see Stacy Clyburn [Michelle Pfeiffer] and Beth Dutton get along, and I would love to see them having a whiskey together at the same bar.”

Sadly, according to her, “Those two stories exist in their own worlds that are different sides of a similar point,” meaning that Stacy most likely won’t stop by the Dutton Ranch anytime soon.

3. Elsa Dutton

Okay, yes, technically Elsa Dutton (Isabel May) died in the hit prequel show 1883, but since then, the actress has provided several voiceovers in the other prequel 1923 and in Yellowstone. Because of that, many fans—including this author—are hoping she appears in some form in Dutton Ranch. Doing that might be hard since her voice-overs were technically supposed to symbolize her lasting legacy on the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, where she was buried. Even so, fans still hope she could appear in some symbolic form.

2. Tommy Norris

Since Dutton Ranch and Landman both take place in Texas, not having a crossover between the two would be devastating. And yes, sure, the whole cast of Landman could appear in Dutton Ranch, but the one person everyone really wants to see on their screen is Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton). This could happen now that Tommy has created a cattle company, and some of the cast said that if given the chance, they would love it.

Marc Menchaca even told Woman’s World that he thinks his character Zach “would fit in well on Landman.”

“I just like the pace of it and the world of it,” he explains. “It takes place basically where I’m from [San Antonio, Texas], and so I get the characters and it makes me feel at home, just with a little heightened violence.”

1. Kayce Dutton

Of course, we had to put Beth’s brother, Kayce (Luke Grimes), at the top of this list. As a star of the other Yellowstone spinoff, Marshals, Kayce would fit in perfectly in the Dutton Ranch world. And director Greg Yaitanes agrees, telling Collider, “We talked about that a lot because each wanted to be on the other show. I feel like Kayce should go to Dutton Ranch. That feels like something that I would lose my sh-t over as a fan. That would be pretty cool.”

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like that appearance will happen anytime soon, with Reilly telling People magazine earlier this year, “I’m so proud of Luke, and we love him so much, and I miss him. I wish we had a crossover. Maybe we will in the future.”
