Queen Elizabeth Just Tested Positive for COVID-19 — Here’s What We Know

Tags:

Buckingham Palace announced this Sunday that Queen Elizabeth tested positive for COVID-19, just two weeks after she celebrated 70 years on the British throne as the country’s longest reigning monarch. The news created widespread worry about the state of her health, and Britain is rattled.

Though the palace didn’t provide much information, the announcement did say that she is experiencing “mild, cold-like symptoms” and still expects to still perform light duties at Windsor this coming week. “She will continue to receive medical attention and will follow all appropriate guidelines,” the palace continued.

The COVID-19 diagnosis has made Britain particularly concerned, because the Queen recently revealed that she hasn’t been moving as well as she used to. While hosting an event at Windsor Castle just last week, she said, “Well, as you can see, I can’t move.” It isn’t clear whether these extra symptoms of not feeling well were caused by incoming COVID-19 symptoms.

The 95-year-old monarch is reportedly fully vaccinated, according to UK media as reported by CNN. However, no one can be certain of her vaccination status. While the palace did reveal that Prince Phillip and the Queen had both received their first doses of one of the vaccines in January 2021, it did not provide any updates about additional doses.

The palace also noted that Queen Elizabeth isn’t the only person inside Windsor Castle to have contracted COVID-19. “A number of cases have been diagnosed in the Windsor Castle team,” a source explained to CNN. It is unclear who else in the monarch’s inner circle tested positive, though we do know that Prince Charles and his wife Camilla tested positive 10 days ago. The Queen did meet with Prince Charles this month.

We wish the Queen a speedy recovery.
