16 Low-Carb Swaps for Weight Loss

Benefits of lowering carb intake aside from weight loss

There are many reasons you might choose to follow a low-carb diet. Many people choose to limit their carbs to help shed some pounds. Still, even if you aren’t embarking on a weight loss journey, cutting back on carbs may still have a positive impact on your overall health. When you prioritize protein and health fat consumption, you may help lower the risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease with a decrease in your blood sugar levels.

Note that bloating is common when cutting back on carbs. That’s because low-carb diets are usually low in fiber, which can cause gas to get trapped in your digestive tract. Staying hydrated can help combat these symptoms.

What is considered low-carb?

If you’re just starting out on your low-carb journey, you may be wondering what makes something considered low in carbohydrates. To deem something low-carb, you have to consider what percentage carbs take up in your daily recommended macronutrient intake. Usually, a diet is considered very low-carb if your intake is less than 10% carbohydrates (20-50 grams daily). If your daily intake is less than 130 grams daily, that’s still considered low-carb (less than 26% of your daily food intake).
