Nobody said losing weight was fun. Most of the time, it just really stinks. You spend some time at the gym, and you turn to not-so-yummy green juices that--let's face it--aren't a slice of chocolate cake. But then the results become apparent and the pounds fall off. So you treat yourself to something sweet because you deserve it! The idea that a big bully would go out of their way to make disgusting comments about your weight never crosses your mind.
But that's what happened to Shauna Arocho. Shuana was at a Dairy Queen enjoying a sweet treat for Free Cone Day when a group of men in a car stopped in the middle of the road to yell at her.
"Eat that ice cream you fat [not-so-nice five letter word]," they shouted. How awful! To make matters even worse, Shauna was at Dairy Queen to celebrate losing 40 pounds since the start of the year. Of course, those men would never have known that. In fact, no one but Shauna and her family would have known about her inspiring weight loss journey, and that's exactly why she posted a video on Facebook in response to the hateful comments she'd just received.
"I'm a 27 year old woman, and I get bullied very regularly. What do people get out of it?" she asked bullies everywhere in a viral Facebook post. "What if your words had been the final straw? You never know what kind of place people are in emotionally. PLEASE think before you speak."
Amen! Even better? What if they had just had a nice conversation with Shauna like decent human beings? They would have learned that after maintaining a paleo diet since June of 2016, Shauna's lost more than 60 pounds--an amazing feat that definitely deserves a reward.
In the video, Shauna says she holds no grudges and that she will pray for these men. Hopefully they've seen Shauna's video and realize what effect their words had.
As for Shauna, we applaud her positivity and optimism and wish her all the best in her weight loss journey.
