Cool and Refreshing Strawberry Lemonade Recipe Is a Summertime Thirst Quencher

Beat the heat with this berry-licious take on a classic

Comments

During hot summer afternoons my grandmother would often whip up an icy cold pitcher of lemonade. I can still remember those lazy days in the small Italian-American community where she lived. We’d sit on her front porch sipping tall glasses of the citrusy refresher. That’s what inspired this Strawberry Lemonade recipe. Only we give it an easy upgrade with just a few short steps.

Simple syrup is equal parts sugar and water simmered until the sugar dissolves. And it’s easy to customize with other ingredients like fruit, herbs and extracts. We stir in juicy strawberries and mint. For a double dose of fruity goodness, we whiz up more berries to make a puree. Then mix the syrup and puree with freshly squeezed lemon juice. The result is an explosion of tart-sweet flavor that tickles the taste buds. Whip up a batch for yourself. Then let us know — what’s your favorite beverage for cooling off during summer?

In pot, combine sugar, 1 cup water, 1⁄4 of strawberries and mint. Over medium heat, bring mixture to a boil; cook until sugar dissolves and flavors blend, 2–3 min. Remove from heat. Let cool; strain. Cover; chill until cold, 2 hrs.

In food processor, puree remaining strawberries until smooth. Transfer to pitcher; top with ice. In another pitcher, mix 3 cups cold water, lemon juice and strawberry syrup. Pour into first pitcher. If desired, garnish with lemon slices and strawberries.
