When it comes to the cast of characters at the head of Ransom Canyon, it can be hard to keep track of how each one connects. Who’s related? Who are enemies? Who’s a long-lost grandson? Here, we break down the Ransom Canyon family trees and explain how each character is tied together.

Staten Kirkland: Owner of the Double K Ranch

Staten, played by Josh Duhamel, led this series, and as an integral member of this cast, his storyline tied to several other characters. Most notably, his decision not to sell his land to the Austin Water & Power Company links him to Davis Collins, who’s pushing him to do so.

Randall Kirkland: Staten’s late son

Staten’s son Randall tragically dies in a car crash within the first episode, and his close relationship with his cousin, Reid, plays an important part in the series.

Davis Collins: Staten’s brother-in-law and owner of the Bar W Ranch

Davis is the brother of Staten’s late wife Amala, and despite being linked by someone they both loved, their relationship is far from harmonious. Davis spends much of the season trying to convince Staten to sell to Austin Water & Power for the sake of his own interests and monetary gain.

Reid Collins: Davis’s only son

Davis’s son Reid is the local football star who hides a deep secret regarding the truth of what happened on the night of his cousin’s death. He proves to differ from his father by the end of the season, despite a not-so-promising start in which we believe him to be a self-centered, privileged teen.

Cap Fuller: Owner of Fuller Ranch

Portrayed by James Brolin, Cap Fuller might seem rough-around-the-edges, but deep down, he’s a softie. After turning away his grandson and his mother when his son passed away, he soon regretted it and tried to go after them.

Yancy Grey: Cap’s grandson

Yancy Grey’s new ranch hand actually ended up being his long-lost grandson, and though he came to Fuller Ranch with bad intentions, he soon realized his mistakes.

Sheriff Brigman: The local man in charge

Sheriff Brigman might have power as the town’s sheriff, but when it comes to his personal life, things are complicated. His wife struggles with addiction and eventually leaves their family and his relationship with his daughter, high school student Lauren, is strained. Things come to a head when he arrests his wife for killing Randall Kirkland.

Margaret Brigman: A woman with a secret

Sheriff Brigman’s wife, we eventually learn that she was responsible for Randall’s death and was also having an affair with Kit Russell, Lucas’s older brother.

Lauren Brigman: Sheriff’s daughter looking for her ticket out

Wanting nothing more than to say goodbye to Ransom for good, Lauren is troubled by her tumultuous home life.

Lucas Russell: A local teen hoping to say goodbye to Ransom

Lauren’s confidante and a skilled worker on Staten’s ranch, Lucas also hopes to say goodbye to his small town with Lauren by his side, hoping to find something better.

Kit Russell: Lucas’s older brother whose secret gets revealed

Though Kit was arrested for the death of Randall Kirkland, we come to learn that he was taking the fall for Margaret Brigman, with whom he was romantically involved. Lucas’s older brother does his best to look out for him.
