‘When Calls the Heart’ Season 13 Premiere Delivers Everything Fans Love—Plus a Shocking Twist
Elizabeth and Nathan are finally home, but danger lurks at Goldie National Park
Change is on the horizon for Hope Valley, and Hallmark fans are thrilled to get to spend their Sundays once again with the beloved cast of When Calls the Heart, which aired the first episode of its 13th season on Sunday evening. Quite a lot has happened since the events of Season 12, and if this upcoming installment is anything like the previous ones, we can’t wait to see what’s in store. ‘When Calls the Heart’ Season 13 Episode 1 recap
Quite some time has passed for Elizabeth, Nathan, Little Jack and Allie, who have spent the summer away from Hope Valley and living with Charlotte at her boarding house in Cape Fullerton while they await the completion of the diabetic clinic back home. However, the building anticipation for their move back to Hope Valley is shot down when they learn that there’s been a delay: Due to a railroad strike, the inspector who was meant to come approve Hope Valley’s facility is held up, meaning it could be on hold up until the spring. Despite the disappointment, Elizabeth, Nathan and their crew head back to Hope Valley for the weekend, where they plan to join their friends to celebrate the opening of Goldie National Park—but not before Charlotte gives Nathan her motherly stamp of approval, warning him not to mess things up with Elizabeth.
Making it back to Hope Valley after a summer away, it’s safe to say that quite a bit has changed since they last called this place home. The electric company has helped to give the community its first-ever stoplight and despite the holdup with the inspector, the insulin clinic is nearly ready for operation. However, with the timeline uncertain, Elizabeth asks Minnie to cover for her at the school in case she isn’t able to return in time for the school year to begin. However, before long, a lightbulb goes off. A resident back at the boarding house in Cape Fullerton, Skeet, often told tales of his nephew in the Air Force, which led Nathan to reach out and call in a favor. Skeet’s nephew was able to fly the inspector out to Hope Valley, who passes the diabetes clinic, meaning that Elizabeth, Nathan, Allie and Little Jack can remain in Hope Valley.
What’s next for Season 13 and where to watch Episode 2
The debut episode revealed that there’s much on the horizon for several other characters. A blossoming romance between Allie and Oliver became even more evident, as well as Edie and Lucas. However, the moment that takes the cake came at the end, when smoke was seen rising from the park where a few of the town youngsters—including Allie and some friends—had just headed out for a hike.
