But there’s an even more introspective, lesser-known side to the iconic country couple: They were both avid readers! In 1984, The 700 Club asked Johnny how he prefers to spend his time and he was quick to answer. “I’m really very shy,” he told the interviewer. “I spend a lot of time in my room alone, reading or writing.”

Over the years, June wrote several memoirs and a cookbook about her Appalachian upbringing that described regular reading of the Bible and it’s something she shared with her husband. A special book-themed note, published to fans on the official Johnny Cash website, confirmed that the Bible was Johnny’s first favorite book—ever.

“Growing up as a sharecropper in Arkansas, the first book Cash learned to cherish was the Bible,” the note said. “He later studied theology in the 1970s and was ordained as a minister in 1979. This inspired his only novel, Man in White, published in 1986.”

“Johnny Cash and his wife June Carter were greedy readers, though many people might not guess it when taking a superficial glance at the country couple,” the note continued. “Sure, they often acted the part of simple, countrified people. And there is some truth to that. But they were also highly literate, published authors—as are many of their children.”

The Cash family called a lakefront estate in Hendersonville, Tennessee, home. They also had a historic family farm in nearby Madison—just outside of Nashville. In each of their homes, the family’s bookshelves were overflowing with a range of titles across various genres from Roman history, prison books, Civil War books, spirituality and more.

“Cash admired powerful orators such as Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Roosevelt’s New Deal directly helped farmers like the Cash family,” the note went on to say. “According to Kathy Cash, Johnny Cash loved spiritual writers, Civil War history, prison books and Roman history. His home library was expansive, and he proudly claimed to have read every book in it—some more than once.”

‘Lone Bull’s Mistake’ by James Willard Schultz

IKEA’s new pill-shaped bouclé sofa lands at a price point that undercuts nearly every comparable piece in its own catalog, arriving as curved silhouettes and looped textures continue to reshape mainstream living rooms. The LILLESÄTER collection is the retailer’s clearest bet yet that the sculptural, cloudlike look isn’t a passing moment — but the design comes with practical caveats that will shape how, and where, shoppers actually use it.

What’s happening with IKEA’s bouclé sofa

The LILLESÄTER launched in March 2026 at $999. It features IKEA’s Axvall bouclé upholstery on a rounded pill-shaped frame with pocket springs and cold-molded foam.

“It’s certainly a firmer sofa, not one you’ll ‘sink’ into,” Livingetc interiors editor Emma Breislin said of a similar construction. “But it still comfortably supports you.”

The LILLESÄTER collection spans six pieces. Prices range from $150 for a pouf to $1,899 for a six-seat version. Each piece shares the same soft curved silhouette. The sofa is also available in a bright green-yellow Gunnared fabric.

At $999, the three-seat LILLESÄTER is the most affordable IKEA couch wrapped in Axvall bouclé. The comparable UPPÅKRA three-seat costs $1,630 in the same fabric. The JÄTTEBO three-seat runs $1,850, with larger configurations approaching $5,000.

Why the bouclé couch trend keeps building

Three forces are pushing this trend forward.

Curved design has gone mainstream. Rounded silhouettes have spent years softening minimalist interiors. Bouclé has become the texture most associated with that shift. Ideal Home writer Sara Hesikova noted that the “curved, organic shape” is “currently one of the biggest sofa trends.”

The price barrier is dropping. Traditional bouclé in wool or mohair carries a premium. IKEA’s Axvall fabric uses at least 90% recycled polyester to deliver the looped texture at a fraction of the cost. That makes a bouclé sofa IKEA shoppers couldn’t afford before suddenly accessible.

Designers are setting limits on the look. Even as demand grows, experts caution against overuse. Interior designer Mary Patton told Good Housekeeping that bouclé works best as part of a layered mix of textures rather than covering every piece.

Sara Malek Barney of BANDD/DESIGN added that the fabric is not practical for larger pieces and is more likely to hold up on smaller items like throw pillows.

That tension between demand and durability is shaping where the trend goes next.

Three scenarios are worth watching.

IKEA will likely expand the LILLESÄTER line. The collection already spans six configurations in two fabrics. Given IKEA’s pattern with successful launches, additional colors and cover options could follow. The green-yellow Gunnared already signals a willingness to push beyond safe neutrals.

Bouclé may shift toward smaller accent pieces. Designers’ durability warnings suggest the market could move toward bouclé on chairs, poufs and pillows rather than full sofas. LILLESÄTER’s $399 swivel chair and $150 pouf may end up outselling the sofa itself. For shoppers on the fence, starting with an accent piece is a lower-risk way to test the texture.

Competitors will respond at similar price points. LILLESÄTER’s $999 entry puts pressure on mid-range furniture brands. Expect other retailers to introduce curved bouclé options under $1,500 within the next year.

Keep in mind that the LILLESÄTER cover is not removable. Unlike JÄTTEBO and UPPÅKRA covers, it cannot be machine-washed. The fabric is treated for spills, but the off-white version is not stain-proof. Bouclé’s looped surface can also collect debris, flatten with friction and snag on pet claws.

The clear takeaway: if you want the curved bouclé look, LILLESÄTER is the cheapest legitimate way in right now — but buy the piece that matches your household’s actual wear, not the one that photographs best.

A look at how Taylor Jenkins Reid created ‘Daisy Jones & The Six’

Reid first published Daisy Jones & The Six in March of 2019. The plot followed a fictional band called Daisy Jones & The Six during their rise to fame. It was told entirely through interviews and was one of the most popular books of the year. Since its initial publication, the novel has been turned into a hit Amazon Prime TV show, starring Elvis Presley’s granddaughter Riley Keough as Daisy Jones, something Reid herself called “a trip.”

“From the second [Keough’s] name showed up in my inbox, it was like absolutely yes,” Reid told People magazine in 2023. “For me to create the character of Daisy Jones, and then to watch her be Daisy Jones, it was honestly beyond my wildest dreams.”

Following the book’s publication and the TV show’s release, fans noted how similar some of the storylines were to Fleetwood Mac’s real-life drama. First, you had this band that wasn’t doing too well until a powerhouse female vocalist joined the group. Then said powerhouse female vocalist entered into a relationship with a band member that ended dramatically. And finally, there’s the fact that the book was set in the 1970s when Fleetwood Mac was rising to fame, raising the question of whether or not the fictional band was inspired by the real one.

So, what’s the truth? Reid said the novel is absolutely inspired by Fleetwood Mac. In fact, it was Nicks and Buckingham’s 1997 performance of “Landslide” that inspired her to write the novel in the first place.

“When I decided I wanted to write a book about rock ‘n’ roll, I kept coming back to that moment when Lindsey watched Stevie sing ‘Landslide.’ How it looked so much like two people in love. And yet, we’ll never truly know what lived between them,” Reid wrote in an essay back in 2019. “I wanted to write a story about that, about how the lines between real life and performance can get blurred, about how singing about old wounds might keep them fresh.”

How Stevie Nicks feels about ‘Daisy Jones & The Six’

After it got out that Daisy Jones & The Six was inspired by Fleetwood Mac and Nicks, fans began to wonder how the singer felt about it. Was she mad? Sad? Annoyed? All of the above? Well, as it turns out, Nicks loved the book and the show, saying it was “very emotional” for her.

“Just finished watching Daisy Jones & the Six for the 2nd time. In the beginning, it wasn’t really my story, but Riley seamlessly, soon became my story,” Nicks wrote on Instagram in 2023. “It brought back memories that made me feel like a ghost watching my own story.”

Nicks then went on to say how she wished her former bandmate Christine McVie, who died in 2022 from an ischemic stroke, “could have seen it.”

“She would have loved it,” Nicks added. “Hopefully it will continue…”

Following that post, Nicks discussed the show a few other times. But it wasn’t until a 2024 interview with Rolling Stone that fans really got to discover the singer’s feelings about the show and Keough.

“Riley doesn’t look like me. She’s much snappier than me. I couldn’t be as snappy as her in Fleetwood Mac. Christine and I couldn’t do that, because we were the peacemakers. [Keough] could be totally shitty and a smart ass and totally arrogant, because she wasn’t even in the band, and they weren’t even nice to her. So that was the biggest difference,” Nicks told the outlet. “But as far as her character went, it was very similar to me. And I instantly wanted to call her and meet her, and I did.”

In that same interview, Nicks also revealed that she herself had pitched Reese Witherspoon, who helped produce the show, a potential plotline for Season 2.

“I wish that it could go into what if … had Billy [played by Sam Claflin] come back after Billy’s wife died and knocked on her door, and they decided to make that last record that I always hoped that Lindsey and I would make. That would make a fantastic second season,” the singer said. “I talked to Reese and Riley about it, and they loved the idea, but everybody’s so busy. Riley’s on her way to becoming a big movie star. But maybe one of these days, they’ll do it.”

If you’ve spent any time on TikTok lately, you’ve probably heard people rave about electrolyte powder supplements. People use them to stay hydrated, make water taste better or even support their weight loss journey. But since supplements are often most helpful when you’re trying to address a deficiency or imbalance, you may be wondering: Do you have an electrolyte imbalance, and do you really need an electrolyte supplement?

We spoke to experts to answer all of your electrolyte questions, including what an electrolyte imbalance is, the electrolyte imbalance symptoms to watch out for and doctors’ thoughts on electrolyte supplements.

What are electrolytes?

“Electrolytes are mineral-based substances within the body that become charged when combined with a fluid (like blood),” explains Louis Lerebours, MD, family medicine physician at Freeman Recovery Center. “The most common electrolytes are: potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium, chloride and many other mineral-based substances.”

Amy Fitzpatrick, MD, chief medical officer at Bedrock Recovery and assistant professor of medicine at Boston University, adds that electrolytes support many bodily processes that happen every day, including:

Proper fluid movement in and out of cells
Normal muscle contraction
Healthy nerve and heart function while helping maintain your body’s chemical balance

What is considered a balanced electrolyte level?

Before we dive into the symptoms you might notice if your electrolyte levels are imbalanced, let’s explore what properly balanced electrolyte levels include: According to Dr. Lerebours and Sadia Saeed, MD, a physician and medical advisor with Welzo, normal electrolyte levels are determined with blood work that measures four key electrolytes including: sodium, potassium, chloride and bicarbonate. They say in healthy adults, the typical reference ranges are:

Sodium: 135 – 145 mmol/L
Potassium: 3.5 – 5.0 mmol/L
Chloride: 98 – 106 mmol/L
Bicarbonate: 22 – 29 mmol/L

“These normal limits can be very different among laboratories; therefore, each result is to be evaluated in relation to a patient’s clinical presentation as well as other test results,” adds Dr. Saeed.

What’s causing your electrolyte imbalance?

If you recently got blood work done and discovered you have an electrolyte imbalance, Dr. Fitzpatrick says the most common causes include:

Vomiting
Excessive sweating
Diarrhea
Kidney problems
Dehydration
Drinking too much plain water
Some medications
Malnutrition

Menopause can also lead to an electrolyte imbalance, says Dr. Lerebours. “Changes in hydration due to night sweats (hot flashes) as well as certain medications that are commonly used during this time of life may also contribute to increased risks of some electrolyte imbalances.”

Fatigue
Weakness
Muscle cramps or spasms
Dizziness or lightheadedness

Nausea
Increased thirst
Constipation
Numbness or tingling
Heart palpitations or an irregular heartbeat

“Electrolyte deficiencies usually have symptoms that are similar to a large number of other medical conditions; therefore, it is always wise to see a physician for an accurate diagnosis,” adds Dr. Saeed.

Should you use an electrolyte supplement?

Now the question you and your wallet have been waiting for: Do you need to buy the trending electrolyte powders to add to your water? “Electrolytes are helpful when you have lost a lot of fluids through excessive sweating during an intense workout or when you have had an illness that caused a large amount of body fluid to be lost,” explains Dr. Lerebours. “The majority of people don’t require these as part of their daily routine.”

If you are going to give electrolytes a try after working out or while recovering from an illness, for example, Dr. Lerebours recommends looking for options with minimal sugar. Zero sugar electrolyte brands that may be helpful include LMNT and Ultima Replenisher.

Natural electrolyte sources

If you do have an electrolyte imbalance, your doctor can recommend the best treatment based on the underlying cause, which may include methods such as IV fluids, medications or lifestyle changes. But you can also support healthy electrolyte levels at home through your diet without relying on pricey supplements.

“A well-balanced diet can provide the majority of an individual’s daily needs for electrolytes (with the exception of individuals with specific medical conditions),” says Dr. Lerebours. “The best food sources to meet your body’s daily electrolyte needs include fruits, vegetables, beans, dairy products, nuts, seeds and soup. Instead of focusing on a single ‘superfood,’ try to eat a variety of these foods each day.”

The bottom line on electrolyte imbalance

From Blood Sugar to Weight Loss: The Healthiest Milk for Your Exact Goal

Standing in the milk aisle these days can feel overwhelming. In the last generation, this section of the grocery store has evolved, big time. It’s no longer just a choice between skim, whole or 2 percent. There’s now an endless variety of nondairy milk options too. But what is the best milk for blood sugar stability or other specific health goals? We’re clearing up the confusion so you don’t have any more guesswork. We asked experts and got answers about the best milk to drink for all your wellness wishes. Let the drink discourse begin…

The best milk for blood sugar stability

The winner? Protein-rich cow’s milk with some natural fat, at least 2 percent. French biochemist Jessie Inchauspe, bestselling author of The Glucose Goddess books, recently told Vogue France about the best milks to drink to protect your blood sugar from a spike. “My coffee order is flat white with full-fat dairy milk,” she explains. Why? The fat and protein help blunt the spike. In fact, adding cow’s milk to a carb-based meal is proven to reduce the post-meal blood sugar spike, according to Canadian findings in Advances in Nutrition.

What other milk can help ensure blood sugar stability? “If you want to have something that’s not dairy, I recommend almond milk or coconut milk,” says Inchauspe. But she gave one caveat: “Unsweetened always. So check the back of the package and make sure there’s no extra added sugar in there.”

The best milk to boost protein levels

Destini Moody, RD, at Top Nutrition Coaching, says dairy milk wins this category. “Cow’s milk has been around since the dawn of milk, so of course it has more science behind its benefits.” She adds, “It’s naturally high in protein with about 8 grams per cup, along with being a natural source of calcium, potassium and vitamin B12.”

The credit here goes to whey protein in cow’s milk, which contains leucine that helps build muscle tissue. A study in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise finds that drinking cow’s milk after resistance training led to more muscle growth than exercise alone.

And nutrition expert Ann Louise Gittleman, PhD, CNS, says, “For those who are intolerant to lactose, taking a casein digestive enzyme can help.”

The best gut-soothing dairy alternative

Trying to avoid GI upset? Moody suggests soy milk. She says it is the plant-based milk that most nutritionally resembles cow’s milk since soy is a complete protein, unlike other plants.

“Fortified soy milk is the only plant-based milk recognized by the U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans as a suitable alternative to dairy,” explains Moody. “It naturally has the same amount of protein in cow’s milk and, when nutrients like calcium and vitamin B12 are added, it becomes very similar nutritionally to dairy milk.” Choose non-GMO soy products for the healthiest options.

The best milk for weight loss

If curbing appetite is your biggest weight-loss challenge, dairy milk is your best friend. Slow-digesting casein found in cow’s milk keeps appetites satisfied for longer. Research in The International Journal of Obesity shows that people on high-dairy diets experienced more weight loss than those who skipped dairy.

If cutting calories is your challenge, nutrition researcher Nicole Avena, PhD, author of Sugarless, suggests almond milk. “Unsweetened almond milk is the best choice for weight loss because it’s very low in calories and sugar while still providing a creamy texture,” she explains. “It’s an easy swap that reduces overall calorie intake without feeling restrictive.”

Gittleman adds, “I personally enjoy macadamia nut milk since macadamias are so rich in healthy fats and low carb.”

The best milk for menopause

Avena says, “For peri‑ and menopausal women, I recommend dairy milk or fortified soy milk because they provide calcium, vitamin and high‑quality protein—nutrients that support bone density and help counter age‑related muscle loss.”

Consuming soy—specifically its natural plant chemicals called isoflavones—can reduce hormone-related hot flashes, according to Japanese research in the journal Menopause.

The best milk for heart and brain health

Consider hemp milk, suggests Moody. “Hemp milk is a complete protein that may also contain omega-3s, an essential fatty acid the body cannot make on its own.” Omega-3s have been proven to support heart and brain health to boost healthy aging. Moody notes, “However, it’s still fairly new on the market, so not a lot of research is available.”

Is oat milk good for you? What experts really think

Here’s a question a lot of health-conscious readers are asking lately. As someone who was sensitive to blood-sugar changes in the past, Inchauspe contends, “I hate this idea that oat milk is good for you for some reason. Oat milk is just starch juice. It’s like drinking a coffee with pasta [water] milk or rice [water] milk. It’s a nightmare for your glucose levels.” But everybody is different and may respond to this beverage differently.

There is a way to ensure oat milk offers more health benefits.

The best milk for a fiber boost

Consider oat milk if it still has the fiber intact rather than filtered out, says Moody. Check the nutrition facts label and compare fiber content between brands. She explains, “Beta glucan is the special type of fiber contained in oats that has been shown to help lower cholesterol.” Scientists reporting in The British Journal of Nutrition found this special fiber can reduce “bad” LDL cholesterol by about 7 percent. One brand to try: Oatly Original, with 2 grams of fiber per serving.

Some milks aren’t as impressive as their whole-food sources

“Almond milk is probably the most popular plant milk on the market today and it’s mistakenly believed to be the healthiest,” says Moody. “Almond milk is simply water that’s been filtered through almonds, but little of the health-promoting compounds from almonds actually transfer into the finished product outside of some vitamin E.” A healthier bet: Eat whole almonds and cashews to get their amazing health benefits.

Moody also doesn’t recommend coconut milk, saying it often lacks calcium and protein. “It can also be quite high in saturated fat, which should be avoided to reduce risk of heart disease or if you have current heart disease,” Moody says. She adds that coconut milk’s best qualities are “its great taste and lack of lactose.”

The bottom line on different milks

The milk aisle may be more crowded than ever, but now you know exactly which cartons to reach for, and when. “The beauty of options is that certain milks can fit certain health needs and food restrictions,” confirms Moody. And don’t dismiss old-school cow’s milk if you can tolerate it. “Most dietitians would agree that dairy milk is the most naturally nutrient-dense.” And for plant-based eaters, non-GMO soy milk is a healthy swap.

Bennett told E! News, “You know, I always say there’s certain people that don’t understand what your life is like, and I think Lacey is one of the people that get it, because when you’re part of something like Mean Girls, no one can really understand what it’s like to be in a movie like that.”

He continued, “Like, it’s a very weird thing and cool thing in pop culture, but, like, I said, ‘Lacey, have you ever gone to a Starbucks and they not write Gretchen Wieners on your cup?’ You know what I mean? “I want to do a Christmas movie with Lacey,” Jonathan told Decider back in 2025. “We haven’t done one yet and I think that would be really fun just to reconnect. We haven’t done that yet. I think we both want to, we’re just trying to figure out what that looks like and what the right one is.”

BookTok Can't Stop Talking About ‘Emma M. Lion’—Here's Why

If you’ve been on BookTok in the last couple of months, chances are good you’ve either seen or heard about the series The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion by American author Beth Brower. Not only is it taking the internet by storm, but it’s also become one of the first viral historical fiction series in BookTok history. But what are the Emma M. Lion books? How many installments are there? And are more on the way? We share everything you need to know below.

What is ‘The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion?’

The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion is a series of books set in 1883 and told in the form of a journal written by our main character, Emma. In them, Emma reveals why her return to her Lapis Lazuli House, in the fictional English neighborhood of St. Crispian’s, was less than stellar. It also reveals details about her past and asks the question, “What happens when the thing you’ve been waiting for doesn’t turn out the way you wanted it to?”

There are currently eight volumes in the series—all of which have the name The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion followed by their installment number—and all are available to read for free on Kindle Unlimited.

“[I] had this idea circling in my head of a woman writing her journal, which I thought would be a little side project. Then one day I imagined this door, and it was in a shop opening out on Whereabouts Lane [a side street in the Emma M. Lion books] and this young woman was walking by,” Brower told The Bookseller of how the books came to be. “I followed her home, and suddenly all of St. Crispian’s was there. It was populated. All the characters were there, doing their thing, and it was my job to wander around, take notes and try to not get in their way…and it obligated me to see the story to the end.”

Volume one in the series, which was self-published by Brower in 2019, has more than 100,000 ratings on Goodreads, with readers calling it “A very sweet, quirky and clever story” in the reviews.

Why did Brower decide to self-publish?

“I created Emma M. Lion with the freedom to make it what it needed to be, without having to reshape [it] to fit through the door of a particular publisher,” Brower told The Bookseller. “I had this inner compass pointing me to become an indie author but was resisting. Indie films have great respect; indie music is cool. But indie authors were seen to be at the bottom of the pile: You’re doing it because you can’t make it. But then I started looking into it more and came to realise self-publishing was not what I thought it was. And I had this increasing feeling that being an indie author might get me where I want to go faster—and I’ll have more fun doing it.”

Currently, the American versions of Emma M. Lion books are printed by Rhysdon Press, which was created by Brower back when she first started writing. Since then, the indie imprint has become increasingly popular, but it won’t publish the international editions of the series.

“I felt that Emma was on the cusp of a big international wave. America is a huge market, and with self-publishing there are so many things to pay attention to that it doesn’t make sense to try and learn how to do them for every single country,” Brower explained. “I wanted the chance to participate in some traditional publishing and give my books that international momentum.”

How many books are in ‘The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion?’

The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion currently has eight installments and according to the authors website a ninth is coming. As for how many books there will be in the series, book influencers have said that they have heard they could be at least 20.

“We are at book 8 out of potentially upwards of 24, so I think there’s a lot of characters we haven’t met yet. There’s a lot to be decided,” book influencer Brady Lockerby, who has more than 400,000 followers on Instagram, said in her video about the series. “That probably sounds like a lot, but I promise that every single one of us that has read this series would read 100 of these books.”
